Mind & Meadow: A Forest Bathing Experience

Join FIN Program Coordinator and Forest Therapy Guide, Jo Joly, for an evening of forest bathing and nature connection at Pease Park! The first of these invitations will begin in the Treehouse of Kingsbury Commons, and from there individuals will be invited to further participate in a more mobile session around the park.

Forest Bathing is a practice encouraging individuals to spend time outdoors and in nature. The name itself comes from the 1980’s Japanese ecotherapy practice known as Shinrin-Yoku. It is an immersive sensory experience that allows you to take in the natural world in order to receive all the incredible mental and physical benefits of being outdoors, such as…

  • better sleep and more energy

  • mood boosting effects

  • alleviating anxiety and depression

  • better immune system function

  • decreased inflammation

  • reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure
    and other stress related diseases

This event is best for ages 7 and up.

About Jo Joly:

Jordan Joly is the Program Coordinator for Families in Nature. She recently completed her her Master’s degree in Anthrozoology after earning her Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Behavior, Ecology and Conservation. She has been fortunate enough to conduct behavioral research in South Africa and spend a good deal of time traveling various parts of the world. She previously developed curriculum for STEAM programs focusing on conservation and sustainability for underserved Austin youth. She yearns to make environmental education and awareness accessible for all walks of life through engaging and relatable activities. She is extremely passionate about conservation and the natural world, and is so grateful and excited to work with FIN.

Families in Nature (FIN) is a federally tax exempt 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2008 as an environmental and outdoor education program. It is our vision to inspire ALL families to fall in love with nature and foster the next generation of conservationists. We strive to engage families of all backgrounds with children of all ages.
