Love is a Journey: Valentine Hike through Pease Park

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and amid these frigid temperatures we are all yearning for spring and warm fuzzy feelings.

Whether you’re celebrating with a significant other, family, a group of friends, or yourself we wanted to highlight some of the best spots around Pease Park to spend the holiday.

A hike walk through the park is the perfect date idea, after all love’s a journey, so why not take it through Pease Park.

Kingsbury Commons

The Treehouse

Located in Kingsbury Commons this is one of the most popular spots to explore at Pease Park. If you have yet to visit, you can immerse yourself in the trees and lay in the net to watch the sunset and the stars come out.

While supplies last, from now through March 2nd, you can stop by the Treehouse and collect a Daffodil (Narcissus) bulb as a thank you gift got donating to PPC’s Amplify Austin campaign. After donating take them home either plant them in your garden or a pot to have blooms this spring!

The Great Lawn

A great spot for picnics, reading, lounging, recreation, and so much more.

Grab a blanket or a good book and listen to the sounds of a little oasis amidst the bustle of downtown Austin.

The low water crossing

Explore the low water crossing together.

The limestone steps that connect Kingsbury Commons and Polecat Hollow provide the perfect spot to watch sunfish, cranes, tadpoles, dragon flies, and other creatures that call the riparian area home.

Volleyball Courts

If you’re looking for something more active, cross the low water crossing and check out the Sand Volleyball Courts at Polecat Hollow.

Gather some friends, family members , fellow couples, or anyone else you can think of and serve up a match of volleyball.

Spanish Moss Pass

As you make your way north you will climb a hill and will suddenly be greeted by curtains of Spanish Moss hanging from the expansive branches of Texas Live Oak trees.

The Lover’s Tree

One of Pease Park’s most notable trees is the Lover’s or Lookout Tree. The branches of this Escarpment Live Oak cross over the trail; inviting you to sit and take in the natural beauty of Shoal Creek.

Tip: For a fun game, complete the Agents of Discovery Mission at the Lookout/Lover’s Tree!

Spend this Valentine’s Day with your four-legged friends at Pease Park’s designated off-leash dog park.

Bring some treats and toys and let your pooch run free and socialize with other dogs.

LAMAR TERRACE

wILDFLOWER mEADOW

PPC’s Conservation Team, recently reseeded the Wildflower Meadow to establish spring blooms in the coming months.

Though you may not see flowers quite yet, you might be able to see the buds of bluebonnets peeking through the ground. Sounds like the perfect spot for a budding romance. (Badum-tss).

Canyon trail

The most northern point of the 84 acres contains winding trails that are hugged by both Shoal Creek and limestone cliffs. These winding paths overlook the Creek and give you a glimpse into the geologic history of the area.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you’re spending the day with a date, yourself, or friends! You can spend February 14th romanticizing life at Pease Park!
