Shifting into September

Just because summer is ending doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! As the sun sets on the beloved splashpad on September 18th, it rises with new interactive programming at the park.

We are excited to embark on our newest adventure with Agents of Discovery and we want you to tag along with us!

Agents of Discovery is an app that can be accessed through your phone or mobile device that delivers educational content through fun challenge questions we have created just for you. This program allows park-goers to join Agent Pax on missions throughout Pease Park to better engage with the surrounding landscape and world.

We have created two missions for you so far; 1) a self guided tour of Kingsbury Commons, and 2) a Live Oak Meadow mission you can complete while sitting in the shade of the Lookout Tree. These missions are for learners of all ages and a great opportunity to learn about the art, nature, and science sprinkled around Pease Park.

Severe Weather Rapid Response

We are grateful to the City of Austin for routinely and rapidly responding to weather events like the flooding we experienced last week. The Parks & Recreation, Urban Forestry, Watershed Protection, and Resource Recovery Departments are the first responders to the many issues that develop city-wide when we experience a rapid downpour in a short period of time. Pease Park Conservancy and Shoal Creek Conservancy are here as partners to these city departments to do our part to assist in restoring the creek and park to a clean, safe state.

And you - our supporters and volunteers - have played a critical role in this creek and park restoration process. Wow! We are so proud to live in a community that values its green spaces and waterways. Thank you!

Here is what has been done:

  • Watershed Protection is clearing debris that gathered around the bridges in Shoal Creek. They focus on these areas because if not cleared, these constrictions can lead to increased flooding in the future.

  • Engineers from the City have evaluated the collapse of retaining walls in the park and repairs have been scheduled.

  • Pease Park Conservancy and Shoal Creek Conservancy scheduled, recruited, and facilitated six volunteer clean up events over the last week. Additional clean up efforts will continue in the fall.
