See Who's Fluttering Through Pease Park

Pease Park = Monarch Waystation

Kingsbury Commons has just received its designation as a Monarch Waystation by monarchwatch.org, which means that it has officially become a VRBO for these beauties.

Monarchs travel south to winter in Mexico each year and we have a special vantage point in Central Texas as they stop for sustenance along the way. Again in the spring, we’ll get to watch as they travel back to Canada, laying eggs and stopping for a snack as multiple generations of butterflies migrate north.

We currently have a monarch caterpillar feasting in Kingsbury Commons and our volunteer families recently found a chrysalis on one of our new plantings!

In keeping with our Monarch Waystation designation, Pease Park Conservancy and Families in Nature each have been able to host official pop-up events in Pease Park as a part of Austin’s annual Roots & Wings Festival - a celebration of trees, pollinators, and all creatures. Our park visitors (and Pax) have enjoyed learning more about how to care for these beautiful creatures!

Award Season Is Here…

Oscars? Emmys? Grammys? No, not that award season! At Pease Park Conservancy, we are honored to have been recognized in several ways for the renovations completed last summer in Kingsbury Commons. And, congratulations to Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, Clayton Korte, and Austin Parks & Recreation Department for sharing these very special accolades with us.

SITES Gold Certified
Green Business Certification Inc. awarded the Kingsbury Commons project Gold under the Sustainable SITES Initiative (SITES) rating system. This puts Pease Park in an elite group of green spaces and makes it the first park in the Austin Parks and Recreation Department portfolio to be SITES certified.

Preservation Merit Award
Preservation Austin recently announced that Pease Park Conservancy is a recipient of a 2021 Preservation Merit Award for the rehabilitation of the Tudor Cottage in Kingsbury Commons. The Preservation Merit Awards recognize ambitious and innovative approaches to preserving the city’s historic places.

And, last but not least…
Congratulations to Harvey Cleary for winning an Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Central Texas for their work at Kingsbury Commons.
