Join us in Live Oak Meadow in Pease Park to help clean up debris from the recent Shoal Creek floods and to spread mulch! The recent flood removed a great deal of ground cover that protected riparian plants and left the soil exposed to further erosion and compaction. It also littered the creek and trails with debris. Much of this debris was deposited on trunks and branches of trees, feet above the ground, causing stress to the growth pattern of the trees.
We will remove all woody flood debris from trunks and branches of trees. We will keep this debris in the same area, transporting it by wheelbarrow, and we will deposit it at the base of trees and along pathways as mulch. We will add mulch to areas that were stripped of the layer of topsoil as a result of the flood.
