An afternoon celebrating Austin’s Black freedom communities.
Created by Pease Park Conservancy, The Rise Project, and
Outreach Productions
Austin Freedom Communities were founded by formerly enslaved people after Emancipation. They became thriving centers of Black culture, community, and resilience. Residents built homes, churches, schools, and businesses that sustained generations.

🚘 PARKING & TRANSPORTATION 🚘
We highly encourage alternative modes of transportation such as rideshare, walking, biking, or public transportation. If you do drive save yourself a headache and park offsite at either
Austin Recreation Center Parking Lot
(1301 Shoal Creek Blvd)
ACC Rio Grande Parking Garage
(824 W 12th Street)
Both of these options connect to Pease Park via a short walk along the Shoal Creek Trail and offer nearly 500 FREE parking spots!
