Pease Park Conservancy serves the park so the park can serve you, but we need your support!
What does Pease Park Conservancy Do?
Pease Park Conservancy works in partnership with the City of Austin to set the standard for world-class park management – emphasizing environmental excellence – to improve and care for this treasured green space for the enjoyment of all. The City of Austin continues to own the land, but the Conservancy has primary responsibility for Kingsbury Commons.
Our Park Operations and Maintenance Agreement (POMA) was signed in January of 2023, formalizing shared responsibilities for Operations, Maintenance, and Programming of Pease Park between the Conservancy and the City of Austin.
What’s the Cost?
Pease Park Conservancy leverages your philanthropic dollars to cover the costs of improving, operating, and maintaining historic Kingsbury Commons. The Park belongs (and will always belong) to the City and to our community. Our agreement with Austin Parks and Recreation allows Pease Park Conservancy to bridge the gap between public funding and the highest levels of park management. The Conservancy’s operating budget is $1.8 million annually and includes costs like
Twice-daily cleaning and maintenance of restrooms
Twice-daily collection of trash, recycling, and pet waste stations
Daily Maintenance of beloved park features like the splashpad, basketball courts, picnic tables, Tudor Cottage and Terrace, Treehouse, garden beds, art installations, and other amenities
Daily safety inspections of the playground and other features
Conservation management throughout the park, including planting more than 4500 trees in the 84 acres
Overseeing ~1500 volunteers per year to restore and maintain the park’s ecological well-being
Offering 350+ free programming events to the public
Each fiscal year, Austin Parks and Recreation provides Pease Park Conservancy with an annual management fee capped at $36,000 and restricted to the reimbursement of utility costs.
