Local Austin television station, KVUE, recently covered Pease Park Conservancy's (PPC) annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Just over 50 volunteers, most making the trek from West Campus down MLK Boulevard. Since 2008, PPC has led volunteer workdays on MLK Day.
This year's tasks varied from removing invasive species, raking flat the mulched trails, mulching and watering newly planted trees, weeding the flowerbeds, and picking up trash along Lamar Boulevard.
"One of the more fulfilling reasons we host workdays is to instill a sense of community and appreciation for the outdoors, even if we're only blocks from booming downtown Austin," said Pease Park Executive Director of Conservancy Andrew Gill.
