Demolition Complete, See What's Next!

We are chugging along on the Kingsbury Commons construction project and have made some major progress since our last update. We have completed the demolition stage of construction and we are still on schedule for a Spring 2021 opening!

Current work is focused on laying the foundation for the bridge to the tree house (designed by Mell Lawrence Architects), the foundations for the mechanical room and volunteer storage area and the reservoir for the water feature. Once we get these foundations down, there will start to be some more vertical construction visible.

Base of water feature reservoir vault. Still to come: concrete walls and roof to the vault (all of which will be underground). This first pour required 17 cubic yards of cast in place concrete!

Framing the foundation for the bridge from the trail to the Tree House.

The next area that is really starting to get going is the historic Tudor Cottage (designed by Clayton & Little). The first step to this aspect of the project is to conduct an exploratory inspection and an assessment on what materials are salvageable and can be used in the final iteration of the building.

Historic Tudor Cottage as it is today.

With the rise of COVID, the construction industry has made major changes to how they operate and ensure the health and safety of their workers. Our general contractors, Harvey Cleary Builders, are leading the charge and OSHA has been using their procedures as an example of how to set up a construction site during this time. Our construction site has implemented the following procedures:

  • Daily temp checks

  • A daily digital health questionnaire

  • Staggered lunch breaks

  • Increased wash stations

  • Cleaning heavy equipment daily

  • Cleaning frequently used/touched areas 3 times a day

Thanks for following along on the Kingsbury Commons project with us!
