Job Description: Director of Projects and Programming

Job Summary

Pease Park Conservancy (PPC) seeks a confident, dynamic, and committed Director of Projects and Programming with a passion for both the mission of Pease Park Conservancy and the protection and preservation of Austin's green spaces. The Director of Projects and Programming will report to the CEO and lead the conservancy through the implementation of the Pease Park Master Plan, activate the park through new programming, and oversee the operations and maintenance of the park. The Director will also develop a volunteer plan, solicit bids from contractors to complete projects identified by the Master Plan Implementation Committee, and assist staff in soliciting grants from charitable foundations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement the Pease Park Master Plan:
    • Oversee/Manage the Kingsbury Commons Project:
      • Serve as the Conservancy's representative to the Kingsbury Commons design team (Ten Eyck Landscape Architects), our Owner's Rep, and Austin Parks & Recreation Department
      • Ensure schematics, site plan and construction documents adhere to the Pease Park Master Plan and overarching vision for Pease Park
      • Assist with development of the Parkland Operations and Management Plan following construction
      • Negotiate and finalize Parkland Improvement Agreement between the City of Austin and PPC
      • Provide PPC Board of Directors regular project updates - including adherence to timeline and updated budget
      • Serve as liaison between PPC Board of Directors and the Kingsbury Commons design team
    • Implement additional projects identified in the Master Plan and prioritized by the Master Plan Implementation Committee
    • Submit proposed project applications to Austin Parks and Recreation Department
    • Solicit bids from contractors to complete projects
    • Activate the park through new programming
  • Further develop PPC volunteer program - primarily through the development of a volunteer plan
  • Facilitate program partnership opportunities with members of the community, local businesses, other non-profit organizations
  • Assist in development initiatives including Fall Fundraiser, Spring Mailer, and programs in the park, as well as actively seeking grants from charitable foundations

Job Requirements

  • The right candidate will have proven leadership in a conservancy/parks/nature-related organization or government agency
  • Skills in human relations (interpersonal relationships), communications (both written and verbal), consultation, problem solving, public relations, group dynamics, and public speaking are also required
  • Must be a strong team player with a proven ability to work with diverse groups
  • Knowledge of park systems, public land stewardship, environmental resource management, urban planning, landscape design, and environmental policy

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of landscape design experience, preferably in a nonprofit and/or parks related setting
  • Experience working with diverse external stakeholders including municipal government entities, neighborhood groups, other conservancies, etc.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and the community, demonstrate confidence, common sense, and good listening ability
  • Fundraising experience a plus
